The VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Swedish Massage is a substantial vocational qualification that will prepare you for a career as a beauty (Swedish massage) therapist. This qualification is designed for learners aged 16 years or older. It will support you in gaining employment as a beauty therapist (specialising in Swedish massage), as the units contained in this qualification cover all the skills and knowledge required for this role.

This is a vocational qualification and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a beauty massage therapist, including units covering the following: providing body massage, health and safety, anatomy and physiology and client care.

Throughout this qualification, you will develop your knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology, health and safety and client care. You will develop a range of technical skills enabling you to provide relaxing massage treatments using classical Swedish massage movements. You will also develop interpersonal skills that will assist you in communicating effectively with clients.

This qualification will prepare you for employment as a beauty (Swedish massage) therapist. You will also be eligible to join a professional association and gain insurance as a beauty (Swedish massage) therapist. Career opportunities as a beauty (Swedish massage) therapist exist in a variety of contexts, including:

– Working in commercial beauty salons
– Working in a destination and day spas
– Working independently/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings

Course Content

History & Principles: Origins, development, and philosophy of Swedish massage.
Anatomy & Physiology: Musculoskeletal, circulatory, and nervous systems; effects of massage on the body.
Techniques: Effleurage, petrissage, friction, tapotement, and vibration for soft tissue manipulation.
Client Consultation: Building rapport, assessing needs, preferences, and medical history.
Contraindications: Recognising and adapting to conditions requiring caution; ensuring safety.
Massage Sequences: Full-body routines tailored to client goals.
Health & Hygiene: Maintaining a clean, safe environment and following hygiene protocols.
Aftercare: Advising clients on post-massage care, stretches, and lifestyle tips.
Professionalism: Developing empathy, respect, and effective communication.

Entry Requirements

– No previous experience required
– Good standard of English sufficient to complete the course competences and online examinations.
– Students must be over 16 years old to enrol on this course
